Life in Ukraine: Saint Nicholas' Day

Today is a big holiday here in Ukraine — Saint Nicholas' Day .

Saint Nicholas is basically our Santa Claus / Father Christmas figure. White beard, love for children, candy and coal (well, actually, flogging equipment, in Orthodox tradition 😶) in socks included.

However, Orthodox Christmas (celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ) is not until January 6th. That means, while the Western world mashed those celebrations up in one, here in the East we have two separate holidays 😎

Anyways, enjoy your eggnog, treat your kids to some candy, and please, for the love of socks, forget whips and coal!

See you at ALMA School for a course of Russian or Ukrainian as foreign 😉
